What can anyone tell me about the formaldehyde issue in the new manufactured homes? We need to buy a new one and would want one without formaldehyde in it. Someone suggested Silvercrest will do this. Any and all opinions please help. Thx.

Formaldehyde is one of the most common chemicals in use in the US...All new manufactured homes, stick built homes, apartments and modular homes must post a formaldehyde warning...There is NO constuction that is formaldehyde free...If a sales person told you this...you need to find another...
Formaldehyde is in most glues, dyes and carpet fibers...The building material that has the most is pressboard...commonly used in floors, cabinets, counters and furniture..
Formandehyde is also used in newsprint, ink in your printer, food packaging and many other everyday items that you already have contact with..Of course...we all remember those frogs we had in HS Biology class..
The highest concentration you have contact with daily is in press free fabrics...It is the formaldehyde that makes it press free...
The point is all you can do is minimize your exposure...but..you should be aware of your other items in your life as well..

Stay away from pressboard, get high quality carpet and get real wood cabinets and you will not have a problem..
The only other alternative is to buy a preowned 4 or 5 year old model...The formaldehyde will have out gassed long ago..

Thanks for that quick reply. We're looking at Champion homes and Silvercrest homes from San Jose. The Silvercrest is sooo much more expensive does anyone out there think they are really worth it???
