The Number one MH Manufactrer: Who is it?
The Number one MH Manufactrer: Who is it?
I have been searching for some type of rating of MH manufacturers BUT been told that there is NO central rater. There is one for the RV Industry so why NOT MH industry.
Furst, does anyone know of a rater?
Second, in your opinion from your research, who is the best?
Thanks.
Doug

I don't think such a rating exists. Maybe everyone in the industry is afraid to criticize others' products. From what I have seen, there are variations within the different brands--for example, Fairmont brand makes a very cheap home which may be lacking in quality but also makes upmarket brands which are very nice but cost much more. I believe this is the case with all homes. There are cheaper and more expensive versions of Hart Homes, Holly Park, Fairmont, Patriot, and all the rest. I have heard many people tell me Fleetwood makes the "best" home but I don't know what they base that on. I would think this would be a good area for Consumer Reports to get involved in.

I purchased a book titled "Buying A Manufactured Home" by author: Kevin Burnside. In this book, he mentions Consumer Reports did a survey in February of 1998. He says also they did a good job with the report. I hope this information helps anyone who may need it. I may have to get a back issue of this one myself.

Manufactured Homes - Information Sources
This weebsite and forum got me started on the road to researching Manufactured Homes. For whomever is interested I have uncovered the following:
Book: "Buying a Manufactured Home" by Kevin Burnside
Book: "Manufactured Houses" by A.M. Watkins
both available at Barnes & Noble or they will order them for you.
Manufacturers of high quality mobile homes include
1) Dual-wide Homes
2) New Yorker Homes
3) Ramada
4) Skyline Corp.
Webbsites
1) www.mfghome.org
Others are also listed in these books. Have fun.
I have also noticed some of the manufactured homes manufacturers watch these forum discussions and put in their pitch for their homes. One recently from Clayton homes. These books will give you some insight into some of these manufacturers.

RE: New Consumer Guide
Hello Doug,
I am in the process of writting a buyers guide that rates the most popular manufacturers in the United States. I plan on having it avaliable sometime in December. If you want a copy send me an e-mail and when it's done I'll let you know. The cost will probably be $39.99.
