we are new to manufactured homes, where we live north eastern calif. a stick home is to expensive for the area to get our money back. we are confused though, we have purchased the book how to buy a manufactured home. we have looked at about 4 different builders we like slivercrest and karsten and fuqua homes but we can only find one dealer for each. are there any other karsten dealers? i already checked out there site and couldn't find any close even in sacramento. which builder would you recommend?

My recommendation would be Skyline. My wife and I looked at Silvercrest, Fleetwood, Champion and Palm Harbor. Of all of these brands the Skyline stuck out boldly because of the quality of fit and finish. Also ordering the home we were able to add and delete any item we wanted. We could have 2x4 or 2x6 walls, various types of roofing material, varing types of insulation packages and any number of changes to windows, bathrooms, bedrooms etc. We live in S. Calif. so the need for insulation any thicker than hud standard II wasn't required. One of the most important things you must do is find a quality dealer. One who is willing to give you the proper service after the sale. From wha we have seen of the Silvercrest units there fit and finish was below that of the Skyline. Fleetwood and Chanpion seemed to be bottom of the barrel. We haven't seem any Karsten or Fuqua's in this area. Stick with the three top quality builders and find the floor plan that meets your needs. Good Luck! Our Skyline will be delivered on the 16th of July and we can't wait!

Before you buy a Skyline, checkout the Karsten homes www.thekarstenco.com and Solitaire homes first www.solitairehomes.com.

What made you rank Silvercrest first? We are looking at homes and have narrowed it down to a Fleetwood, a Silvercrest, and a Skyline. We like the exterior looks of the Silvercrest the best because it doesn't look as much like a mobile home with Skyline coming in second. The Fleetwood is a nice interior but looks like a mobile on the outside. I was impressed that Skyline uses the Hardiboard siding that has a 50 yr warranty. Silvercrest info didn't have theirs listed.

Before you buy Skyline . Find a mfg. that will build your MH using Plywood sub-flooring and don't let anyone tell you that particle board is going to do the job - The particle board will nott last as long as your mortgage. AND get a mfg who puts a 5 year warranty on their product...
