Looking for any information on Oakwood Homes...(we have looked at these)
We live in the NorthWest Ark area and there are so many dealers here I'm totally confused! We want a good quality home but also at a good price. I am aware that Shultz and Fuqua are good homes, but not sure if we can afford them. Can anyone recommend a middle of the road price home that is still well constructed, etc. Is there Consumer Report rating information out there for mobile homes?
Thanks for any feedback you can give us!!

Hello Rita,

Shultz homes are middle of the road. I would recommend them. Stay away from Oakwood homes not my favorite. I have written a book called How to buy a manufactured home and save thousands of dollars. You might want to consider getting yourself a copy. Go to the home page and click on how to buy. Fuqua homes are good also. Hope this helps.

Randy,
Thanks so much for the advice. I have been reading through this forum and all of this information is very helpful. There is far more involved in purchasing a mf home then we ever dreamed. Just wanted to thank all the folks who reply to us "rookies" for this invaluable info. I intend to order your book asap. Thanks again!

Oakwood has had some service problems that still seem to be there, when it comes to taking care of the buyer. You want service along with your home. Oakwood lots sell Oakwood homes and you would think the service would be very important to them, but apparently not.

I believe Oakwood has declared bankruptcy as a result of several big lawsuits. I have also heard negative things about the present CEO taking shortcuts and basically mass producing a bunch of garbage and selling it at high mark-ups to try to make up for the lawsuits. I also believe that Shultz and Marlette are owned by Oakwood, and that although they are more upscale and residential than the Oakwoods they too are declining in quality!
