We're planning a retirement move to southern oregon. We had been planning on having a home constructed when we discovered manufactured homes.

From what we've read, it appears that we can get the same quality features in a manufactured home that we can get in a site built home. It is appealing to us to get the same quality home at a reduced price. The savings can be put to good use, and would allow us increased travel etc.

The following list includes some of the features that our current home has. These features would be necessary in whatever home we purchase.

Solid brass faucets (moen, kohler, etc.), porcelin sinks, ceramic floors, solid maple cabinets, granite countertops and vanities, woodstove with natural stone hearth.

What we'd like from you, is some manufacturers that serve southern Oregon and build high end homes with thoes features. We are extremely interested in being able to make the same fixture and lighting choices that a builder would offer us. If we can actually have the same custom features and quality that we'd get in a site built home for less money, we'll be sold on the idea of a manufactured home.

On some of those features you might have to sub-out the work like the granite counter tops. Most manufactured homes are going to have your standard plumbing fixtures and counter tops. That's why they only cost $40 per square foot. Granite counter tops and other features are usually not going to be offered by most manufacturers. I have sold homes where the customers put in their on oak floors. So, some things you might have to do after the home has been delivered. What you need to be concerned about is the quality of construction. Is the home is built right? Cosmetics are easy to fix. Look at Fuqua's for your area.

Kevin, Hello! If you want a quality home take a look at the Marlette homes of Hermston, Oregon. This company builds their highend homes like a site built home and offers some of the options you listed of your home into their home. And also take a look at the Fuqua homes of Bend, Oregon. This company builds their homes just like a site built home and they do the impossible to their homes. They offer many different options that you can choose to put into your new dream home. Take a look at these two manufactures and see which one you feel that you can go with. Good luck

I have information comming from both Fuqua and Marlette.

When I spoke to the Fukua factory the gentleman indicated that Fuquas mission is to compete with site built homes. We discussed construction details and I was convinced that their homes are built using the same materials that I would expect in a site built home. We will be touring the factory in Bend Oregon, in the near future.

Fuqua indicated that they would be happy to build a home to any floorplan that we desire. They indicated that is fuqua's specialty.

As to the cosmetic features that I'm looking for, it's pretty simple. For example Fuqua doesn't get enough call for granite to keep stone masons on staff. But they would be happy to prep the cabinets for a granite counter and adjust the price accordingly. In the area of tile, they indicated that large expanses of tile are difficult to install at the factory because they might be damaged in the transportation and setup process. They would prep the floor for ceramic tile and we can subcontract that out as well.

Thanks for the refferals. For us the decision is pretty simple. If we can get the home we want, with the quality we expect, and save a few dollars in the process then we are an easy sell.
