New Home Buyer Looking For Any and All Advice

Post by hlarman » Mon Sep 18, 2017 11:19 am

Hello everyone,
My significant other and I are looking into buying a manufactured home to put on a piece of family owned land. We have been looking all over the internet for builders in California, around the Sacramento area and were referred to Clayton homes which seems great but after seeing the reviews on champion I am terrified.

Do any of you have advice on where to look and who to trust? As of right now we are just looking for all the information we can possibly find on these manufactured homes.

I really look forward to hearing what all of you have to say!

Thank you in advance for all of your help, we really appreciate it.

Look into dealers in your area first. Look them up bbb.org, ripoffreport.com, and even read reviews on google. Ask anyone you know locally about their reputation. Finding a reputable dealer and installer is the most important thing. More problems are caused by poor installation and finishing then are caused in the factory.

Moreover, due to transportation costs, most companies find it hard to be competitive outside of about a 500 mile radius of one of their factories. So which brand is best is really a local issue. The best brand is likely one with a reputable dealer near you, and a factory within a few hundred miles.

Next, make sure you have an idea of what level of quality you want and are willing to pay for. Most of these factories are capable of building a quality product, but it depends what specs they are given and what choice of materials is made. If you shop on price alone and aren't aware of the tradeoffs being made, you may not be happy with the end result. A good dealer ought to have sufficient options available to get you into the quality and options you want at a reasonable price.
