Fleetwood home?

Post by garyjoe » Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:23 am

Hello,

My wife and I are looking seriously at 2008 Fleetwood (2200 sq ft) on 3.6 acres near Weatherford, Tx. We love the view, the floorplan, etc. I have rented a manfactured home before in Arizona and loved it. Anyway, I'm 55, just moved to Texas within the last year, and am looking at this home as it is less expensive as we approach retirement, and love being out in the country.

I have read not too many good things regarding Fleetwood regarding customer service and bankruptcy. Will this be an issure for me? The home has never been lived in, it was the developers model home. We will have to get a building inspection prior to buying. Any opinions?

thanks

There have been many good and not so good things written about Fleetwood and most home builders... manufactured and site-built. Each home is an individual and should be treated as such. Always do your homework on the particular one your interested in buying.

"Manufactured homes should have a Professional Home Inspector provide a complete report. And like other homes, WDI reports (wood destroying insects) and septic system inspections are also prudent. In addition, it is now mandatory in Texas that any time a manufactured home is bought, sold or moved, that it receive a Foundation Certification from a licensed engineer"

Fleetwood customer service is not a concern as they are not around anymore. Purchase a home warranty contract. You can usually find these contracts thru your real-estate agent or closing company and night be able to include the cost in your finance contract.

I live in a 1984 Fleetwood doublewide. While we have made quiet a few improvements and additions and have faced the normal repairs and replacements over the years. I am pleased to tell you the basic structure has held up very well.
