Purchasing a home

Post by Bonnie » Thu Dec 23, 2004 9:30 am

My husband and I are looking to purchase our "final" home. We have bought land in Nevada and are would like to purchase a manufactured home. We have looked at Palm Harbor Homes and were at their manufacturing facility recently. I liked the floor plan but not the exterior of the home. We have also talked to a Champion dealer but as of yet have not been able to get in to see the models.

What we would like to purchase is a home that is going to last us and not have alot of structural problems etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions on which manufactured home is the best would be appreciated. We would rather spend the extra money now and have a good investment rather than pouring money into a white elephant down the road.

Thanks.

I'd recommend you get some of the books offered on this site. Randy Eaton's book gives excellent advice on construction and brands. Well worth the investment.

I definately prefer the Palm Harbor over the Champion. They are much better built homes.

I purchased My PH from the Siler City NC plant. The construction is what sold the home for me, I'm very pleased with the home.

I currently live in a Champion, and am not crazy about the quality of the construction. Our new home is going to be a Palm Harbor. The difference in the construction and the quality is huge. At first we weren't crazy about the look of them either. Kind of boxy and unimaginative. The Fleetwood models we saw were much prettier. But when we realized how much better the PH's were built, we learned to love the look of them. When you start banging on the walls and looking under the sinks, all the pretty stuff starts losing it's luster.
