First time homebuyer

I plan to buy a mobile home and would like some feedback on some manufacturers with good reputations in the state of Virginia. I have looked at Clayton and Fleetwood Homes. We actually have a Fleetwood plant in the town I live in and was told not to purchase a Fleetwood Home, but their floor plans are the type of home I am interested in. Can anyone give any good suggestions? Thanks.

Crystal,

It is your descion on what home to buy. Everyone has their own opionion. However, my only draw back to a Fleetwood home is that they use Novadeck flooring. If you have kids water accidents will happen and partical board flooring such as Novadeck won't hold up to water!! They will tell you that it has a 10 year warranty on the floor decking BUT the warranty is void if it EVER gets wet. The floor plan may what you're looking for but is it worth falling through the floor? If you're sold on Fleetwood as the dealer if you could order your home with OSB or plywood flooring. This is a $2,000 upgrade but well worth it if you're planning to make this a permanent home.

Just one man's opinion,

Fleetwood as other large manufacturers build quite different homes in each plant...Floorplan is important but construction is the thing that will make the difference you your overall enjoyment..

I know little about the Fleetwood in your town...but...it is true that EVERY town that has a factory has a group of "former" employees who will bad mouth the plant...just remember this info is usually from FORMER employees...could it be the lousy construction they profess is the reason they are former???

Since you seem to not know there is a vast difference from manufacturer to manufacturer in the way of construction...you might want to invest in one of the books available in the bookstore here...Spending a few dollars before you buy is much smarter than a lifetime of heartache..Good Luck
