I am a homeowner living in the Northeast. I am having problems with my new manufactured home. I believe the problems are as a result of the installation. My manufacturer says, it won't repair anything the retailer did. Now that I'm in this bind, who do I turn to. Is there a state agency that can help me out?
I need some guidence. Thank you!!!!
Where do I go if I have problems?
Re: Where do I go if I have problems?
I assume you have already talked to the dealer...
Your owners manual will have listed the state agencies in your area..or list your state here and some one here will post a link to their web site....You could also talk to the service manager at the plant and ask advice..a good plant would at least call the dealer and try to help..

Re: Where do I go if I have problems?
#1- Document your concerns and mail or fax them to your retailer and manufacturer. It is good to know, your manufacturer has to make determinations as to what caused every problem reported to them.
#2- file a written complaint with your State agency. If you write back and tell which state you live in, I will give you there address.

Re: Where do I go if I have problems?
I started the looking process with the belief that an independent dealer was the best choice for a home purchase because they have more to gain or lose in the transaction but I have altered my opinion in the past year because of the blame game between the factory and the dealer. When we purchase I will most likely go with a PH owned lot, let them do the footings/runners, to make sure it is done to their specs, as part of the purchase that way I only have one person to contact with any problems and I am sure there will be problems. I have had two site built homes built by one good builder and one not so good. A good builder will take care of the problems and I expect the same from PH and by going this route I will elimanate the he said she said that seems to be very common in this industry and puts the buyer right in the middle.
Re: Where do I go if I have problems?
I for years advocted the small locally owned dealerships as the best place to shop...I worked at one here in Augusta for almost 10 years...He ment well..he tried his best...but the industry has changed soooooooo much that independents can hardly make the business work anymore..even if they mean well...
Customers are buying permanent homes..financing 30 years...expecting quality and service for their money...geez..most independents do not have service departments any more..no service persons..no service...
Time has come that the business has changed...I moved on..and now work for PH...there are others in the industry as well..Clayton, Fleetwood..Champion all have their own dealerships...They are large and well funded...they mean well...will there be some problems..maybe...but..the ability is there to solve them...
Good Luck with your home..I am sure you will be happy...

Re: Where do I go if I have problems?
I won't throw the independent dealers under the bus. I know many that do a fantastic job. But I do agree, the PH situation seems to be pretty darn good.
I found that the multi lot independent dealers to be (generally) the worst.
