What is the difference and is one better than the other?

Mobile homes are built to the HUD Code, (Manufactured Housing construction and safety standard) Modulars are built to the prevailing state code, typically just like a stick built home.
Modulars are typically built heavier and to more currect codes, for example, mobile homes are built to the 1993 National electric code, most modulars are built to the 1999 National Electric Code.
Go Modular, much better product.

Before you go modular, make sure you have the time. I can take 6-7 months (or longer) to get in a modular, where it might only take a few weeks to get into a mobile.

Also, you must own the land for a modular, but a mobile can be placed on rented, leased or parked land.
