Oak Creek Homes

Post by C. W. Huff » Sat Dec 13, 2003 8:44 am

Am in the process of selecting a manufaturer for a home in East Texas. I have pretty well narrowed it down between Palm Harbor, Champion, or Solitaire. But at the last moment Oak Creek homes has come into the picture. I am looking at the Galaxy plan #560. Is Galaxy a manufacturer in and of itself, or is it just a model of Oak Creek. Also, I cannot get any information on Oak Creek over the internet. I'm not a computer expert when it comes to finding something, so does anyone know where I can go to get some info on Oak Creek other than what the dealer is telling me. Has anyone had any personal experience with Oak Creek Homes?

We own a 1989 DW Oak Creek. It has been a very nice home. Was orignally purchased right off the lot with no upgrades. We bought it in 1999 and spent the last 3 years updating to our specifications. The colors/wall paper was absolutley hideous. We replaced the carpet, vinyl, counter tops, bathroom fixtures, sinks, front door, roof and windows. Added white paneling to the walls to cover up the wall paper. The structure of the home is very good and we have not had a problem. Has lasted a good 13 years without any problems and still going. We had no intention of selling this home since we finally got it were we wanted it, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we will have to relocate with my husband's job. It is set up very nicely on 1/3 acre of land so the thought of moving it to our new destination wouldn't do it justice.

We've been looking into buying a new home and looked at Oakcreek, Palm Harbor, Solitare, Champion and Clayton. I have previously owned a Palm Harbor and would not buy another one. I just felt we paid way too much for the home and the Palm Harbor name. Same for a new Oak Creek. Too pricey. We loved the Solitare homes, but couldn't get a floorplan to meet our specifications. We choose a Redman home by Champion. Added a few upgrades and it still came in within our price range.

We looked at www.oakcreekhomes.com

We just liked the floorplan of the Champion/Redman better than all the others. Of the two Clayton floorplans that we considered, one was too small at 1474 sqft and the other too big at 2086 sqft. The more square footage the more expensive. The Champion we chose is 1699 sqft and our current home is 1620sqft.

We are also trying to buy the new home for what we get in the sell of our current home so we don't have to get a loan. Right now Champion's base price with our selected upgrades are within our budget, but we won't negoitate final price until we have a firm contract on our current home.
