First of all, thanks for these terrific forums. They are so helpful and often down right entertaining.
Now on with the questions: We are looking to buy a quality singlewide to place on our 13 acres until the kids are in school and I go back to work at which time we would build and rent out the MH. We are willing to pay for some upgrades but really want to start with something well built to begin with. The biggest dealers in our area (Central Kentucky/Southern Indiana) seem to be Clayton and Fleetwood. We looked at both and weren't impressed. It seems like the SWs were targeted at the poorest of buyers and heavy on the eye candy but of little substance. For example, the Claytons have plastic faucets and upgrading to metal faucets isn't even an option that is offered on SWs at the moment. I also found after visiting two Clayton dealers that the salesmen seem almost put out and uninterested in showing the SWs. So, is this what we're likely to find with all dealers/manufacturers? Are there any manufacturers building quality SWs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: singlewides
Try Clayton's Norris section. Much better quality, and they do offer a fair number of upgrades.
Re: singlewides
Few dealers are have any nice singles in stock right now..Almost all wanting to buy singles expect the prices to be low and nice singles..Norris is one..are expensive..probably about 40K...And singles are financed at a higher interest rate than doubles..effectively making the price the same as a 50K double..
I do not mean to defend salespersons...but I can sympatize...they show the singles..ask the price...customer ends up down the street buying used for under 20K...Happens everyday...
