question about proof of home sold and paid off?

Post by Brandon » Thu Jun 05, 2003 5:26 pm

Ok, we are ready to sign on a loan to purchase a doublewide and they are asking for proof of home being sold and paid off. We built our home from ground up and we paid for it as we went. We don't have a bill or sale or anything. We don't want to sell it but to tear down part of it and just make a storage building out of the rest. We don't want to do this anytime soon because we want to paint and add crown molding throughout the doublewide and add the extra things to really make it nice. It will take a few months to add and change the things we want even though this is only a 2002 model home. My question is, what can we do to not have to sell it or what papers do they need if we don't have any? They did tell us that it had to be sold or tore down and that they needed proof of either one before approval. Is there anyway I can sell the house to my wife since the loan will be in my name and how would I go about this? HELP if you can.
Thank you,
Brandon

This is an unusual requirement when the home is paid for..The lender wants to be sure that you are going to live in the new home......A few home only lenders might require this...If this is the case...you probably well qualify for other lenders...you might even try the "find a lender" section of this site..

What you are suggesting is borderline fraud...talk to the lender yourself...tell them your plans and ask this question directly...If they say this is ok...then you are fine..Good Luck
