2X6oc vs 2X3oc

hi everyone,

ok, osb and transverse are the right choices. now, help me understand which is better: 2X6oc vs 2X3oc or 2X??oc. i don't understand this. why would a builder put different construction on the outside versus inside of a home?

On the exterior walls, you will have your insulation installed. The thicker the width
of the studs, the higher degree of insulation can be installed. The thicker studs also
allow for more strength in the exterior walls.

While we're on the subject, 2X8 floor joists are better than 2X6. More strength, more
insulation can be added as well.

On the interior walls, 2X4 construction is much better than 2X3, primarily for
strength and durability.

Hello, my name is Gary. What you're really talking about is outside wall construction. Most of our homes (Redman, Patriot, Schult) come with 2x6 exterior walls standard. A 2x6 is a big board. Most are on 16" centers, meaning every 16" there is a 2x6. This construction is good from a structural integrity standpoint, and very good from an insulation standpoint! Nearly 6" of insulation vs nearly 4" from a 2x4 exterior wall. If it's me, I would avoid a 2x3 wall. You seems to have some good questions...feel free to call me at 877-353-2494 toll free.
