nova dek flooring

Does anyone know what Nova dek flooring is? Is it better or worse than osb particle board and plywood? Noone seems to have pure plywood subflooring in my area (New England). My dealer says that Skyline abd Redman both have this Nova subfloor.

Do a Novadeck search at the following site, you'll get an "earful" or an eyeful for that matter.

Hello Allison,

Consumer Reports recommends using plywood as a sub-floor in a manufactured home, it will not swell like particleboard when exposed to water. I believe plywood is a good choice but I am not against using particleboard if it has been treated with a water-resistant coating. Cresdeck and NovaDeck are products that are being used in the industry successfully. The problems with standard particleboard is, when exposed to water the particleboard will swell causing expensive repair bills. Particleboard that has been treated to resist water is dark brown in color and comes with a warranty. The floor in my home is made of Cresdeck. I have had no problems with this product and would recommend it to anyone. When touring different display models look for exposed sub-floors to determine which product is being used. Standard (yellow) particleboard is a poor choice and should be avoided at all costs. If a manufacturer were using standard particleboard I would not hesitate to walk out and look for another manufacturer that has my best interests at heart.

Sub flooring other than T & G Plywood is a mistake . I understand that you can order a MH with plywood. Solitare MH uses plywood. It cost more, it lasts longer, and will not crumble and warp like my particle board floors are doing in this Skyline MH or 'structure' as I call it,; I don't consider this a house or a home. It is a mistake which is for sale and I am looking at 'on site' built contractors for my next purchase. See the forum " ASK THE Manufactured Housing Expert" an article I just posed this date MH and 30 Year Mortgage...........

Hello Richard,

Sorry to burst your bubble but Cresdeck and Novadeck costs more then plywood. It comes with an warranty, plywood does not. I agree with you that plywood is a good choice but I have sold Cresdeck for over 5 years and I have had no customer compaints. My home has Crestdeck in it and I've had no problems. My kitchen sink sprang a leak and my floor got wet. No problems because my subfloor is treated. Plywood may have warped.
