silvercrest mobile homes

my wife & i are first time buyers (mobile) and are wondering if a silvercrest is a good product. any help would be appreciated. we are still looking, and are leaning heavily towards karstem pricey, tho thanks

Larry, Silvercrest Homes a Champion Home Builders company. Silvercrest Homes is a fine home and had a very good reputation until it was bought out by Champion Home Builders. This company started cutting corners like the outriggers aren't every 4' feet apart. What will hold the floor, sidewalls, and ceiling? No outriggers any more at all.problems time and t ll take several months to have them come out and service your home. On the other hand, Karsten Homes is also a very good company and take a look at their frame and outriggers. They bolt the outriggers together so the home doesn't seperate at all. They use standard 2x6 sidewalls, 2x4 interior walls, and 1/2" sheetrock interior tape and textured thru out. They are one of the best in California. You do the comparing and see which home stands out in your eyes and make sure you check the option sheets or spec sheet of the home. Make sure you have a one piece tub shower combination, real wood cabinets, go put more insulation in the roof, sidewalls, and floors. The more R-value the better the energy performance the home will have. Upgrade you roof load design to 30 pounds per square feet. Good luck.

Clayton was named manufacturer of the year by MHI (Manufactured Housing Institute ) for 2000 & 2001.

I looked at a Clayton dealer. Walked through a couple of brand new homes, and also through a couple or repos. The new homes were ok. I also looked at an Oakwood dealer. I looked at a floorplan that the rep said they called a "Bunkhouse" and I loved it. I walked this home on the lot, and it was fantastic. The walls were a lot more solid than the Clayton. The floor did not budge a bit. They clayton homes that I walked were not put together, of course, so in all fairness, it wasn't a great way to compare - the Clayton home was not joined, but the Oakwood was. I am trying to make some time here soon to drive up to Amarillo to go check out the only Karsten dealer in Texas - hearing good on them, and I want to go walk a home and look at prices and stuff. I am still doing my homework, after being saved from nearly making what could have been a biiiig mistake by all the great info from all the great people posting on this message board!
