1st time buyer/ NE Indiana

Can anyone give me an idea of good to high quality double or triple wide MF Homes to place on a piece of lakefront property we own in NE Indiana?

We will put in a foundation for it. We have only enough width for a 50'-52' model, as there are large trees on the property we are hoping to leave in place. We would like to attach a garage to the rear of the house.

To complicate matters, we currently live in Texas, we have looked at homes available here, which, we are told are entirely different construction-wise than those in Indiana. We are originally from that area, so we are aware of the need for energy saving features and other changes needed for the cold weather.

We are going up there in a few weeks to start looking for a home to put on the property. Would appreciate any input on where to look for the good ones in that area as the more I search on the internet, the more confused I get.

Thank You, C. Wuthrich

If they are available in the NE Indiana area, Mascot, R-nell, Oakwood, or Clayton represent the cream of the crop, in my opinion. Below are some internet sites which may help, if you have not already been there.

C. Wuthrich, Hello, Indiana is full of some of the finest builders in the manufactured housing industry. Some of the finest are the FallCreek Housing of Elkhart, Indiana, Four Seasons Housing of Middlebury, Indiana, Fairmont homes of Nappanee, Indiana, Century Homes of Nappanee, Indiana. Remember to order your home with one piece tub/shower stalls because water is the greatest damage to the floor, water shut off at every fixture, real wood cabinets, upgrade your R-value in the ceiling, floor, and sidewalls. Good luck.

We do the first year warrant service on various makes of manufactured houses. We have seen innumerable miscellaneous service problems. I can tell you from the homes that we have worked on that even the "best recommended" home may show up with unexpected problems. The best thing you can do is to be very careful that the quality of the materials used to manufacture your home are the best. Mobile homes can be your dream house or your worst nightmare. Mobile home dealers should be carefully considered as well. Their reputation for providing promp and professional warranty service is not to be taken lightly. After your house is set and you are moved in, you don't want to spend the next year waiting for your dealer to take care of those "little details". I have found that the factories we deal with are very good about taking care of warranty issues. The big headaches we see could be avoided by the dealer simply fulfilling their end of the service agreement in a promt and professional manner. I hope this is of some help to you. We have a heart for the first time buyer.

Thanks so much for your responses, the information you have given me is most helpful. We are leaving in a couple weeks to look for a MF to put on our property.
We are now researching, as much as we can on the Internet, the homes most highly recommended. We are definitely going to check out the dealers, their reputations, response time, etc., as that appears to be a major part of being happy with the purchase.
Thanks again, C. Wuthrich

Harold, What kind of faulty workmanship do you have with a Fallcreek home. I've seen Fallcreek homes myself and they are great homes. They uses many residential construction and really exceed the HUD code. My friend who is a retired BNSF engineer owns a Fallcreek in Wyoming and he is very happy with the home. They are very good company to deal with too. They usually service their homes with in a limited time frame.
