Colony Factory built homes by Commodore homes?
Colony Factory built homes by Commodore homes?
We're seriously looking at Colony Factory built homes by Commodore, and wonder if anyone has heard good or bad remarks about them. Or if you actually have owned or own one, we would like your input.
I've contacted the company itself for very specific information, and have been pleased thus far on any interaction we have had with them. Right now we're waiting on what their reponses will be to our last list of questions in regard to build and structural topics that we we had, and we'll go from there. We've looked at a dealership before, but it's been a while. We plan on going back this coming Tuesday.
Thanks
Sandy

We bought a Colony Laurel House almost 2 years ago and we love it.We only had a couple of cosmetic problems and the factory fixed them right away.We upgraded the insulation package and had Delta faucets put in.Our model has the step down kitchen and family room with the stone fireplace and we have enjoyed many fires in the fireplace on the cold nights in the Southern Tier of NY.I can not say enough about our Dealer, they were great with us and what everyone says is true, you must have a Dealer you can trust.

Thanks for sharing your experience with Colony homes. We're pretty much settled Colony or Fairmont Homes out of IN. Either way, they're Northern built homes which seem to be built better for colder climates. Though we're only in WV, it's going to count in our heating/cooling costs. Like you, we also plan on installing a fireplace. That should help too. BTW, my finace was born and raised in NY. Elmira to be exact. I've never been, but it's supposed to be beautiful.
Re: Colony Factory built homes by Commodore homes?
We purchased a commodore home from a local dealer had have several issues. One being that the range that is in the home is turning my back wall yellow and G.E. has said that its up to commodore to fix the problem because the wall is not withholding the heat it should. My wall behind the range is very hot. Found a leak in the roof 1wk ago they just came out and fixed the problem but left a water stain on the ceiling without fixing that. Also had to have my counter top reordered because of a chip and they ended up leaving the counter top with me. Said that its only cosmetic look. Be careful please...

My mother owns a 1996 Commodore (purchased new in PA) and has had numerous problems. Roof leaks, kitchen windows leak, crown moulding joints have separated, closet door not square, entrance door not square, master bath tub caulking loosened, on and on and on. How common are these problems?

Colony Homes - Stay Away.
The people of Colony Homes have got to be the biggest morons in the industry.
They do not honor commitments, return telephone calls.
The quality of the workmanship of their homes - well it does not exits.
Apparently they do not know what the meaning of straight or level is.
I could not believe some of the crap they call fixtures that they installed.
Stay Away.

Re: Colony Factory built homes by Commodore homes?
I own a small planed community and at one point a 1990 Colony was located here. I have seen and worked on manufactured homes since I was a child in 1969. Although, my experience with this home is limited I would have to say it was some of the worst quality I have ever seen. It had siding without anything under it and the siding looked like it was flowing off the home. The tubs, plumbing and windows were the lowest quality possible. Although, this home had significant abuse by the owners it had poor quality of build to begin with. I lived in a Skyline for years and it is still a great home, 28 years old now. The worst problem with the 90 Colony is in the shingle roof structure. Although, the shingles were replaced it had sunk a good six inches every four feet it needed the entire roof structure replaced. This home was manufactured by Colony 3 years after Commodore opened the
the plant long enough to work out the bugs. I have seen only one manufacture od lower quality with regards to roofs,Young American. I would never recomend a Colony Home based on the roof structure issues I have seen within this one. Wayne

Re: Colony Factory built homes by Commodore homes?
They built my home for a basement and sent the blueprints and I had the blueprints and made sure all directions were done as per there instructions Then they sent the manufactured home. I was very surprised and upset they put the 3 gas lines. The water line and a electrical outlet facing down. All on the outside edge where the home would sit on the basement blocks. What a problem it has been the company had to delay putting it on the basement because of this then they came and cut all the lines off unhooked the outlet and left it dangling and put the home on the basement and the pipes shoved up through the drywall and also left a 2x6 that was supporting the gas line in place and it pushed down on the basement window so they just put a spacer in where they welded because it was not going all the way down. So I had to use a lot of tubes of sealer on that side and because of the delay it rained very hard the night before they came to set it in place and a lot of mud for me to clean up. They made the home wrong it was for skirting not a basement. And the company will not do anything about it They just ignored what I had to say and no recourse
