Locating a title with the serial number only

I need to find out how to obtain a title for a 1956 pontiac coach trailer and the only information I have is the serial number. Please help.

A bit of a challenge. Not all states had titles in the 50's. You should start your quest at your local title office. Find out if there even were titles that far back. Of course it could have well moved across many state lines in its 57 year history. Even most title states would not require a title for a for such an old vehicle.
