strange info on title trailer

i bought a 1982 14x70 i got a title which isnt important where i live, brand name says BERH 1982 ID #: 12212333. i am guessing this is an abbreviation for a brand, and the id number looks strange. dmv said thats the same thing thier computer says. any help would be nice

Don't underestimate the importance of your home's title. Even if you live in a state that lets you retire the title, be sure the documentation is done correctly. We have had many posts here, from folks that neglected title work for years until they were ready to sell only to find the documents they were holding needed a signature or notary witness by someone that was long gone.

BERH is listed by the State of Colorado as the abbreviation for Berkshire Inds.

Contact some local dealers in your area or your state MH Association. Someone that has been in the business locally, for a while may be familiar with the usage

Serial numbers (VIN - Vehicle Identification Number) are set by the building factory. I have seen legitimate numbers that are a string of only numbers and others that include some letters.

12212333 being made up of only 1,2 and 3 looks kinda suspicious, but could be real. What state do you live in? Most state title authorities will not title a MH or a motor vehicle without some definitive proof of the real VIN.

New homes come from the factory with a Manufacturers Statement of Origin that MUST include a VIN. It would be difficult to get a title with a phony VIN. (nothing is impossable).

Look on the back side (opposite the hitch end) of your home. There should be a red rectangular tag on each section. This is the HUD inspection plate that indicates the home was built to the code applicable to the code of its day. This plate will also have an embossed number.


Click thru to the Institute for Building Technology and Safety With that Label Number they will be able to provide you with:

Serial Number
Date of Manufacture
Name of the Manufacturer and Plant Location
Location of First Destination (usually the retailer)

i look at the tag when the mover brings it in. thanks and i live in wv i guess that explains it
