replacing the roof

Post by ty1hunter » Mon May 02, 2011 9:05 pm

Hi I was just wondering if anyone can help me .I have a old 57x12' mobil home and I need to replace the roof My question is how much weight can the exterior walls handle if I wanted to build a wood framed roof with a good pitch. I want to put a decent pitch on it cause it is a hunting camp in upstate NY and sometimes we get a lot of snow and I'm not there to clean it off

There are a number of ways you can change the pitch of the roof. The best way to go about it depends on the construction of your home. I'm guessing from the size (12 wide) that you home was built in the 70's probably prior to the federal construction code for MH was enacted. As there was no national building code it is difficult to answer your question without inspecting the home.

Your best source in Upstate NY for this type of info is Exterior Homes Visit their web page for contact info

They have a unique system changing out the existing bowed trusses with new triangular trusses forming a peaked, pitched roof. I have seen them make this transformation, it is quiet a dramatic change and a unique system.
