NC title problem

Post by eagle#1 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:21 am

I want to purchase a trailer from a guy that brought it from his landlords 6 years ago. The landlord never gave him the title, landlord stated he lost the title. I really want this trailer but I'm scare about buying it bc no title. What should I do? I live in NC?

Would you purchase an automobile that didn't come with a valid title? Proper documentation is not your responsibility. Let the seller do whatever he needs to do to produce a marketable title or documentation that the title has been "retired".

Most states now have a process to "retire" a title once the home is installed in a permanent fashion on land owned by the home owner. In NC the DMV calls a "retired" title a "canceled" title. and they have a process for both cancelling and un-cancelling MH titles.

You need to be sure the seller is the owner of record and can legally sell the home. You can find all the nessessary state forms at the NC Dept of Motor Vehicles Web site

You can locate your local office here or phone NCDMV's Customer Service Office at 919-715-7000
