what's with all the negativity about our product?

Post by Jennifer » Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:07 pm

In researching on the internet for information on our industrty in general I have come across several very negative websites mainly formed by homeowners who are very unhappy. When did this start? I know we have issues to work through and several myths to bust about our product, but I don't understand the anger. I have always worked under the assumption that as an industry, we have done a good job of advocating and raising standards across the board within all segments of this industry.

Can someone explain?

It is not just our industry..When ever there are millions of customers there sure will be a few who cannot be satisfied no matter what. In todays world of wide open uncensored internet usage there are many public places to vent your hostility. Read through the thousands of posts here. You will see a few who have been done wrong to and given the opportunity to vent here. Even then few of them bad mouth the whole industry. I am glad you care. You seen to want to be part of the solution, not the problem. Get active in your state manufactured housing association. Speak out with in the industry about its problems and solutions..Keep educating yourself and always be honest with your employer and customers. Folks like you can be part of the future success of the industry and improvement of the general perception of what we do...Good luck and stop back here often.

I must admit, for most of my life I heard nothing but negative things about mobile homes. So, I continued throwing money away every month renting a series of cramped, noisy apartments. Thankfully, a friend recently enlightened me with the truth about mobile homes, and I am now the proud and elated owner of a used double-wide. Every time I invite over a non-mobile friend, the reaction is invariably one of shock and awe at how big and nice-looking my mobile home is.

I have noticed the general negativity towards mobile homes online as well, and so in addition to telling and enlightening everyone I know, I'm also blogging online about my whole experience of buying a mobile home. There's already a couple posts about common misconceptions and how I discovered the truth, so I hope I can help other people have the same pleasant experience I have had!

Used manufactured homes are the best kept secret in American housing. They are the largest source of non-subsidized economical housing across the country. Pre-owned manufactured homes are sold by dealers and by private parties who own and want to sell. You can often find pre-owned homes in excellent condition with many of the same amenities found in a new home but the price is significantly less. Here are three online paths to follow if your looking for pre-owned a manufactured home

Internet Listings from private owners, dealers and BANK REPOS - Most have instant maps to each home for sale plus Financing and Insurance quotes available for each home in the listing. http://mfdhousing.com/portal/mobilehome.com/mls

At this time you can find a Manufactured Housing Repo Liquidation In Progress on line . The banks want to sell and the prices are often very sweet.... and right now they are offering financing! Now, Shopping for a home in a buyers market can be fun and exciting! Find the house of your dreams and bid on the home of your choice today.

Instead of spending your day driving from one retail center to the next, you can know before you leave home which local sellers have the inventory and finance programs that best suit your needs.. Free Search of Local Home Inventory .

I've been doing mobile/manufactured housing inspections and remodel and repair, in a coastal area, since 1975. There has never been a better time to buy and remodel a m/h in our area.
As far as negative commentary on our industry, I lived in a mobile for 10 years, my brother is presently living in a mobile, and my mother in law lived in one for around 10 years. It it is an economical way to have more privacy than an appartment, and actually own your home. My mother in Minnesota still has no wish to live in one though, she is a product of all the tornado stories where the mobiles have been distroyed and ripped off their foundations.
I think all industries have their negative stories. Many of the new conventional home builders have owners with horror stories.
