I understand there is a rebate for repairs on a mobile home.
Is this true?
What are the details and where do you apply to get this rebate?

There have been a number of class action settlements - NOT against the manufactured home builders - but certain companies that supplied them different components.

The biggest being a settlement to all owners of homes and commercial buildings that were sided with "hardboard" siding. A number of lumber companies produced this type siding under a variety of names but the courts ruled that the product was not suited for exterior siding and the lumber companies paid back millions to home and building owners that had repaired or needed to repair weather damaged siding.

Another was a settlement for unsuitable plumbing fittings that were used in the early days of poly pipe plumbing. Many home owners across the country were able to get reimbursed or paid in advance for replacing the plumbing in their homes.

To the best of my knowledge both of these have long been settled and closed to additional claims. The products in question have not been used in home construction now for many years. and there are no open actions at this time against any builder or parts supplier.

There are extended warranty type programs available for manufactured homes. These are often excellent cost saving plans that cover various aspects of the homes plumbing, electric, appliances, etc Different policies cover different amounts on different components of your home. Read the contract and don't be afraid to ask questions to be sure your getting the Extended Home Warranty type coverage your looking for. These type contracts are not just good sound reasoning they are generally priced lower than a single service problem would cost to fix. To my understanding the price is in the area of $150 per year and is available for six years of coverage that starts the day your factory warranty expires. They also offer installment payment plans so you can pay a small amount each month to continue coverage

We've owned this home for 6 years.

I'm sorry but I am not aware of any programs that might cover your expense. Perhaps the program you heard about is a local or state program. I would start by contacting your state's manufactured housing association. You can find a list of contacts for each state at The Manufactured Housing Yellow Pages

Watch this post strig. Perhaps another surfer will have heard of the program your seeking.

There are some Federal programs that can pay for improvements (especially energy saving ones) to older homes...Some are income based..You should visit your Local Housing authority office and see if any programs are available to you...They administer all HUD programs and probably all of your state programs...Good Luck..
