serial number older mobile home
serial number older mobile home
I have a older mobile home given to me with no serial number or name of manufactuer, or title.
The insurance companies will not insure without a serial number or manufacturer name.
I have looked everywhere on this home for them, no where to be found.
Also went back to the last owners name at the local tax, accessor & revenue office, no information there.
What can I do to get insurance on this home?

Re: serial number older mobile home
Check the title documents..Check the actual title or with the states title office..Maybe you can buy renters insurance which includes personal effect and liability coverage..In most states..no title, no ownership...Basically you do not own this house...

Re: serial number older mobile home
The complete serial number, as pictured below. (This number may be either vertical or horizontal.) Q: How Do I Locate the Serial Number? A: This number is stamped into the front steel cross-member of the home chassis by the manufacturer, and is different from the HUD certification label. The home's skirting may need to be removed to allow access to this serial number. Include ALL the letters and numbers of the serial number in your request. Q: Is this the only place the serial number can be located? A: No. ON OLDER HOMES, BUILT PRIOR TO THE HUD CODE YOU MAY NEED TO LOOK ON THE MAIN "I" BEAM OF THE FRAME ... OFTEN ON THE FRONT DOOR SIDE OF THE FRAME NEAR THE HITCH END OF THE HOME. This information can also be found on the data plate if it is still with the home. The serial number may also be found on vehicle title or insurance document. aSK THE FOLKS YOU GOT TTHE HOME FROM WHO IT WAS INSURED WITH

Re: serial number older mobile home
There is no title to this mobile home.
The lady who owned it passed away a few years ago.
No paper work at all on this home.
The lady left no trail at the tax office on this home.
If I knew the name of the insurance company she may have had,the insurance companies do not keep infomation that long past her death.
There is not even a name brand on this home.
Have no idea who made it.
Some dealers mentioned the serial number may be on the inside of the closet door, or the inside of the doors of the kitchen cabinets.
All had been removed with new cabinets.
There is no number anywhere on this home.
Just the Hud Sticker on the rear of the home.
Is there anyway to get a new serial number?
I've also checked with the insurance companies about getting Renters Insurance, no go there either.
Funny, you pay taxs on this, but can't get insurance coverage on it.
The mobile home is not worth much, but it's the contents and the need for homeowners insurance on the other out buildings I'm after. This is only temperary shelter while I build my house, but need the other insurance coverage for the other buildings & contents there.
Just thought there was a way to obtain a new serial number.
Thanks so much for any help!

Im sorry you purchased a title item with out understnading the need for the title.. you cant get a new serial number of a car, boat or manufactured home,,, your only hope seems to be to crawl under the home and search for a number etched on the frame.

Re: serial number older mobile home
There is a service that will verify the HUD label info..The info would include manufacturers name and location, date of manufacturer and serial number...IBITS charges a fee of $50 for a verification letter which takes a few business days..You can find their web site here:
http://www.ibts.org/label_req.shtml
The application form has a questions phone number on it "Questions: (703)481-2010"
Good Luck
Hope you did not pay much for this non sell able asset..

Re: serial number older mobile home
Only cost was to move it and some minor repair.
So, wasn't out too much, considering a place to live for free while building my house!
Now, we know why they gave it away free!
Thank you so very much for the information!

Re: serial number older mobile home
Justin, what state is the home located?
Re: serial number older mobile home
If you are paying taxes, then you should have a roll # on he tax bill/statement. This is the legal # that identifies that particular mobile. I know I have a double wide and both sides have roll #'s and correspond to the ones on the metal labels on the back of the home. You might find a lawyer who would know how to get this legally transferred into your name.
