Outside outlets and shed lights won't go on any more, why?

Post by slvalentine6 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 3:01 pm

I am a new manufactured home buyer and also disabled and on a fixed income. So here's what I need help with.

The lights in my shed and the outlets in the shed and on the outside of my home have stopped working. So I no longer even have Security Lights (motion activated) that work.

I asked the local Public Library for a book with information on fixing Manufactured Homes so I could run down the problem and fix it on my own, but so far no luck in locating a book.

I checked the circuit breaker in the house and all the switches were in the proper position, and I don't know which one is even connected to the lights and outlets - to just turn it off and back on again - in case it needs to be re tripped.

Can any one please help me with the problem.

Thank You,

Person in Distress in Portage, Michigan

Try the Ground Fault Interrupter Breaker. In some homes you will find this in the breaker box. In others you will find this in one of the bathrooms, built into the outlet next to the sink. You will notice a small reset button as part of the outlet. This is a safety feature. The outlets and fixtures in all wet areas will be wired thru that ground fault breaker and it will trip if there is the slightest of electrical shorts including improper grounding.

In many parts of the country manufactured homes are required to have an outside breaker box as well as the one built into the home. Many times when additions are built they are wired from the outside box. You may find a breaker in there that needs to be re-set.

If your exterior outlet installed in the factory is not working my bet would be the inside ground fault breaker. See Using And Troubleshooting a GFI
