Generally the wiring for the ceiling and light switches are in the ceiling, and drop down thru the top plate. The side wall receptacles will be run with the length of the room. It would not be normal for floor work to effect the wiring for either the ceiling fan or the light switch. A sectional home, having the electrical panel on one side of the home, requires that the wiring be connected to the other side of the home. This is referred to as the "cross over", be it wiring or plumbing or heat. The key being that there is a specific area in your home, could be in a closet on the marriage wall, behind an access panel, or accessible from underneath the home. In any event located this junction box for the cross over, and begin there. It sounds like you have cut thru a wire, and that is probably the only location where overhead wiring drops to the floor level.

What type of home is it and what manufacturer built it depends on where the wires are ran. If I knew I could tell you where they are.
