I have recently purchased a new manufactured home in California. the home is new, although it has been on the site tightly closed up for 18 months. Immediately upon moving in, I have been experiencing all the symptoms of formaldehyde poisoning. I have persevered by still living there. I have been trying all sorts of ways to eliminate the formaldehyde, but I cannot ascertain where it is -- perhaps the carpet or the heating ducts, because the symptoms are worse when I turn on the heat. I have left all of the windows and doors open for three months with now relief. I have also bought the IQAir Chemisorber, but that does not seem to help, despite running it 24 hours a day.
Can you offer any solutions or advice?

Should I rip up the new carpets and padding, seal the flooring and lay new carpets? Should I try to use the method of baking it at 120 degrees for two days?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Formaldehyde is a chemical that is used in many components of new homes. The standards set a limit on the amount used in any particulate home. The type problems you are reporting could very well be from Formaldehyde or some other irritant. As you home was on the site tightly closed up for 18 months have you considered the possibility of mold? Mold can happen in even newer homes, when there is dampness present and cause people to experience reactions or even respiratory problems.

Contact the retailer that sold you the home and ask for a visit from the factory service department.
