New home prices are much more dictated by the cost of materials and labor than thew overall market for the sale of homes....Materials and labor prices are not going down...to the contrary they are rising quickly...
You might find an individual builder/dealer with a home in inventory for to long who might have to discount it some..but remember this would only happen on homes no one else wanted for over a year..Meaning you would have to be accepting features, floor plan and colors which are not to attractive..You will not be able to customize the home to your taste...With the rising cost of materials and labor..time is money in new homes..If you want one in the near future..buy it as soon as you can before price rises any more...

The decline in housing has not brought lower prices...in fact prices continue to rise. The rate of the rise has declined as the laws of supply and demand have cooled the marketplace. None of the experts are predicting a drop in prices any time soon just a slow down in price jumps.
Mr. Murray is correct. Now is still the best time to buy. Prices are not going to decline and interest rates are expected to keep going up. The home your looking for will be more affordable today then in a few months from now.
Below is an quote from an article that reflects this trend this was lifted fom

House Price Index Shows Largest Deceleration In Three Decades
09/07/2006
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A new House Price Index (HPI) from the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) finds that U.S. home prices continued to rise in the second quarter of this year but the rate of increase fell sharply.
Home prices were 10.06 percent higher in the second quarter of 2006 than they were one year earlier. Appreciation for the most recent quarter was 1.17 percent, or an annualized rate of 4.68 percent. The quarterly rate reflects a sharp decline of more than one percentage point from the previous quarter and is the lowest rate of appreciation since the fourth quarter of 1999.

These forums have thousands of post made over some years...Try searching the forums for the manufactures you are interested in...Some of these are very regional and few here would have direct experience with all of them..
Check out the bookstore here and consider John Grisham's book comparing manufacturers...
