need to contact vindale corporation to get specs. do they still exsist? do they go by a different? thanks.

Vindale has been gone for years...There is no depository of old building specs on homes.....

we recently puchased a 1973 Vindale 24x48, and would like to change the 2-windows in the master bedroom which are side by side 5' in width total w/ a 2x4 between. we would like to remove these windows and install a 5' patio door, is it correct that there is no header the window's, only a beam along the roof linet and floor w/ 16" on center 2 x 4's. Want to make sure if we cut out for patio door we are not weakening the structure. Can anyone confirm. Thank you

These are two standard 30" wide windows, and there is no header per se, but a 2 x4 turned on its side. In order to facilitate the patio door, the most important thing is to purchase a patio door made for a manufactured home. You have a 7' wall height. A patio door for a manufactured home is 76" tall and will allow the placement of the header. A patio door purchased from a home center will be 80'" and will not accomodate the correct support.

Its our understanding that Vindale manufactured its homes side walls w/ a steel "L" angle on top plate of side wall, thus supporting roof trusses and distributing weight of roof through out the entire side walls. because of this, would we still need a supporting header to accomodate weight load of trusses over the new patio door? Patio door in living room which came installed w/ the home has no wood header obove it, so we assume that the "L" angle must hold the load of trusses at that location also.

It is to our understading that Vindale manufactured its home's w/ an "L" angle accross top plate of exterior side walls to support weight of the truss load. Therefore if we remove the windows to install a patio door , the "L" angle will support the weight of the trusses, therefore not requiring a load bearing header to be installed above patio door to support the trusses? ( is this correct?)

You're going to need a header in order to support the top of the door frame. It has to be screwed to something.

It will also be necessary to provide the appropriate column support for each side of the door. ANSI A225.1 would have been the standard utilized to provide set up for this home, and requires that any opening greater than 48" in the side wall, which your new patio door will now exceed, be provided with piering at each of the columns used to transmit the load to the ground.

i am looking for the wiring of a 1974 vindale mobile home 14 wide by 68 with a pull out in the living room. can any one help/ thank you
