Partially unfinished, custom singlewide

Hi,

I'm interested in creating a very low-cost, solar home. Does anyone know if there are manufacturers that will build a custom-designed, single-width home and deliver it without siding? Basically, our plan is to place the unit into a masonry 'envelope' that will already be finished on the rear and sides. The home would be set on piers, and large stones will be placed underneath. Then, we want to finish the southern exposure with masonry and glass, creating a six-foot sunspace entry with a wood decking floor.

When you say without siding, do you mean without any finish on the exterior walls?
If so, NO, a manufacturer would be prohibited from dong that. What they could do is build one with either OSB or plywood on the exterior and paint it. that would be allowed, however, most would probably be afraid to do it.
A better option would be to buy a metal sided home and tear the metal off at the site.

Eugene,

Thanks for the info. Yes, I was thinking of just OSB on the exterior. I think your suggestion of stripping off the metal on site is a good one.
