moisture under home...

We have recently purchase a DW that has no gutters. It is situated on a hill, and so we can actually walk under half of the house. Our concern is that the rain creates moisture under the house. Even during spells of dry weather, the ground under the house has stayed moist.
A friend of my husband's said that putting a good layer of limestone gravel all under the house should take care of it. I was wondering if this is correct? And yes, we are going to put on gutters!

Christina,
Every home manufacturer requires that the home site be graded to shed water. Moisture can lead to big problems, especailly frost heave of the piers and anchors.
You would be better off to bring in clean fill dirt and build up the area under the home and slope it away from the home, a fall of about 6" over 10'. If because you live on the hill, makes this impossible, you may need to cut a swale into the ground on the high side to divert the water away.
Gutters will help, but to protect your investment, grade the site as well.
