repair or renew

Post by helen » Sat Apr 09, 2005 6:50 pm

i live in a 14x70 , 3bdrm,2bath mobile home that is quite old and in need of several repairs, do we replace or repair. it is a 1986 new horizon designed for hurricane zone 1. it seems there are several plalces in the flooring that have developed soft spots, some windows leak in the hard rains, the bathtub in the small bathroom has craacked in the bottom. i am 66 years old and hate to think of having big hpousenote payments. spoke to a co that would reroof and reside and replace the windows but the cost comes ou to be about 16,000 does this seem right /. any suggestions, i live in jacksonville nc. thanks

Honestly, you could buy another one for that kind of money (maybe slightly more).

I find that very rarely are older mobiles worth repairing once they begin to have substantial (roof, floor, structure) damage.

If you've got 16k to throw at it, I'd *seriously* be looking at just 'trading it' in and replacing it with a new one.

Pendragon is exactly right!
replace, don't throw good money after bad.

I live in eastern NC and have inlaws in Jacksonville, NC. In looking in the newspaper there are often pre-owned but much newer singlewides in your area. Perhaps try that route, if it is a quality home that has been kept up, you might get a good deal. Or you can look brand new, either way I wouldn't put 16000 into a 1986 home in its current shape.
