Need Advice: Rain through Door

I have a 2001 Skyline in California. Front door on South side is getting a beating from vertical rain which is coming inside and soaking the carpet. There is no awning over this door. Should an awning have been installed initially? In lieu of an awning, is there any type of a strip I could attach to the bottom of the door that would flare out and deflect the rain? Any other suggestions?

Also wonder if 3 winters of this could have caused any permanent damage to the floor boards that have gotten wet?
