I live in southern OH and I am thinking about putting a new home in WV this spring. We have a few companys in my area and I am intererested in knowing which ones are the most reputable. I am much more concerned with construction rather than frills so please- let me hear your opinions. So far Redman and Clayton are at the top of my list, we also have oakwood, shultz and fleetwood.
I realize clayton carries a varience such as norris to cambridge. I'm not sure about Redman, the dealer I spoke with their says all their homes are 2x6 walls
(standard) and I can get several different roof pitches. This was a couple of the things that were considered upgrades with clayton..even on the norris brand......

Re: new home comparision WV
The suggestion I would make to you, is buy the home from a WV dealer. The laws relating to manufactured housing set up are complicated, and in WV, an out of state dealer can not set the home in WV, unless he is licensed to do so by WV. This also relates to the fact that there is a trust recovery fund available to correct problems in WV, and none in Ohio.
Re: new home comparision WV
Wasnt aware of a recovery fund....thanks so much..........Now to just find a dealer that I like to work with in WV...the two most knowlegible and trustworthy that I have found are in OH or KY..I'll keep looking and asking questions......Again, Thank you
Re: new home comparision WV
Forgot to ask......where would I find information on this trust fund and how it works?
Re: new home comparision WV
Im also from WV and like OH dealers better. Just wondering if you ever found a solution to your problem? By the way the reason I like OH dealers better is a $15000.00 difference between the Fairmont WV dealer and the OH dealer with the same options.
Re: new home comparision WV
I haven't made a sure decision yet,but I agree with you on the dealers. I haven't really gotten prices from dealers in WV simply because when I went to asking questions I was just more impressed with the knowledge of the gentlemen I spoke with in OH and one in KY. I live near Huntington WV but I have been dealing with an Homeshow agent in Ashland KY and a gentleman in Gallipolis OH who carries Redman. The salesman with Homeshow near Huntington never seemed to be able to get me sure answers. More like "oh sure we can do that" then when I went back to discuss something he would say "thats not what I meant"....I'm still checking into things but I do feel the most comfortable with the two Ive mentioned. I would be glad to give you their names if you want to email me directly my email is [email protected]. It's just scary knowing you will be making the biggest investment of a lifetime and the range of answers you get to questions are so varied. You would think if these things are all built to "HUD" code then they would be alot closer in comparison.
