The P-trap in my mobile home bathtub is leaking... I have tried and tried and tried AND tried to replace it but consistently have a small leak ABOVE the p-trap in the drain fitting/fixture (the leak is where the threaded drain meets the p-trap assembly) ... I have purchased the whole assembly twice... Ive tried 3 different washers, 2 different drains, lots of plumbers tape, little bits of plumber tape, tried it with sealant, tried it with NO sealant... Im about to try it with plumbers putty if I cant figure it out....
The leak is not substantial, but obviously unacceptable...
Help PLEASE!!!
Sincerly,

Re: bathtub p trap STILL leaking
I just wanted to make clear that it is the swivel connector with washer that is leaking....

Thats usually caused when the pipe connections are not lined up with each other exactly straight.Even though they go together they will leak if there cocked a little bit out of line.

Bryon,
A common problem is that the floor decking is overcut at the "p" trap location or if the tub is a plastic one, the styrtofoam base is cut back, in either scenario, the tub can flex and crack around the drain outlet, the cracks can be so small that you can hardly see them, but the leak due to the deflection caused when you stand in the shower.
If this is the case, you need a new tub.
Look to see if the styrofoam base is completely supported by floor decking.
