Toilet Repair

Post by Kathy » Thu Sep 09, 2004 6:41 pm

Hello -

I put in a new fill valve but the coupling nut that came with it will not fit on to the water supply line. The water supply line is white - I believe 1/2" and coming out the end of it is copper head. Around the white tube is a copper band. I need to know how to remove this band and copper head so that I can use the new adapter I bought to connect the water line to the fill valve.

Thank You,

Kathy

The copper band is a compression band .You would have to cut it off with a hacksaw, however ts usually easier to just cut the pipe right behind the band.
To connect the new fitting it would more then likely need to be attached to the water supply line with a new band which requires a special tool. You might save yourself a lot of trouble and and track down a fill value that fits your current water supply line fitting.

I just bought a fill valve kit at Lowes that had three different adapters in the kit for different types of water lines, adjustable fill valve, and stopper ball. Total cost of the kit was less than $ 10 and took about 15 minutes to install. If you don't have a Lowes in your area, check Home Depot or any hardware store.
