21 weeks for a Cavco

Post by Karen » Sun Jul 04, 2004 3:00 pm

Cavco homes, all purchased through Factory Direct in Riverside County, are telling our agents, the Cheryl LaFond, First Choice Manufactured Homes, that my home, ordered on June 1, 2004, won't be ready until October 12.

What is going on?

When we checked here in AZ they were 3-4 months out. They are VERY busy, which is why the wait. That's good if you think about it. Popularity means that people are happy w/their homes...ordering a new one, or new customers by word of mouth.

You should wonder more if there is no wait.

They must have the longest backlog in the industry...Many factories do production runs..meaning that they only build a particular floor plan when they have enough orders to fill a few days production...If you have an rarely sold floorplan...it can take a long time in this type of plant..

Your biggest problem is that you cannot lock in interest rates that long...even with a fee...cross your fingers that rate have gone up all they are going to go up...good luck..

I kind of felt the same way. I don't know how they can stay in business if they cannot pick up the slack in busy times. I was wondering how much of the wait is due to the pull or lack of pull a dealer has with the factory. Do people have a way to squeak into the front of the line and we are being bumped?

Is there something going on behind the scenes that lay-people don't know about? Who would I contact or how would I find out if something is amiss?

This is possible....larger dealers..company owned stores..all get better placements...In today's market...a dealer's internal finance might even be the problem...all dealers work on lines of credit to buy and sell homes...there is a delay getting his money....The dealer will have a cap on the line of credit..if it is full he will have to wait until his money is straight..Call the sales manager of the plant and ask about the delay...

We are ordering a 2918 and have been told about 16 -20 weeks. If it makes you feel any better.
