I have purchased a 1996 Redman home as a repo. Havehad several problems
with the plumbing. Iv'e had to redo part of the plumbing due to several episodes of leaking. Are there certain regulations for Hud on plumbing and if so what are they. Also I'm thinking about seeking legal help with this matter so any help youcanoffer would be great. Bought it as is with no warranties with the contingency that everything be in working order.

If it has polybutalyn plumbing connections and pipe(grey color) there has been a class action settlement for some years.I know in 95 it was still used but not sure about 96.It was very prone to leak in the connections.

One thing you need to know is that the HUD program extends only to the first purcahser of the home. Since you bought a repo, you might be out of luck.
The class action on the PB pipe is long ended, and over exploited as well.

You should have a look at www.polybutylene.com to look into all of the issues surrounding polybutylene. The class action settlement (www.pbpipe.com) has not expired and will continue reviewing claims until the year 2009 I believe. The most imporatant thing to find out is whether or not you have copper or plastic insert fittings. Secondly you have to experience at least one qualified leak in order to be considered for relief through Cox vs. Shell Oil (www.pbpipe.com). That being said, there is another settlement funded through DuPont, but it only provides releif to homes that contain plastic insert fittings. To see photos of the various types of fittings you should visit http://www.polybutylene.com/poly.html. Feel free to email me at [email protected] is you should have further questions.
