How big of an a/c compressor is needed for a 16X80 singlewide? The dealer is telling me I need a three ton compressor but someone else said I could do with less.

Any opinions much appreciated. Thanks.

You can call an HVAC contractor and get him to size a unit for you.You do not want more tonnage then you need as it will not run long enough to pull the humidity(moisture)out of the home(which can lead to mold, etc. problems)3-ton does sound a bit large for a 16*80.

Depends on your insulation value and what type of clymate you live in.You would need to do a manual j calculation to be exact. But 500 square feet per ton is a rough estimate. 2 1/2 ton sounds pretty close it would be better to be a little undersized then oversized.

There is a HUD data plate on the home...It will recommend a MAXIMUM size a/c..You should not go over the recommendation..
