pillars or block set

Post by Jerry » Mon Apr 19, 2004 11:27 pm

I am replacing an old 1969 Vindale 12x60 mobile home with a 1978 16x70 Medallion MH. The ground is settled and solid. Do I need to pour piers? Is shifting the only advantage? I think it would cost an extra $1000 or so to use poured peirs instead of a simple block settup. We use it as a summer weekend place by the lake. Where can I get a drawing of the spacing of, the number of and other specifications to get it set up properly?

It is uaually a good idea to have poured concrete footers under the block setup. You would have no settling in that case.A single wide settling a little does not cause as many problems as a multi-section would though so its up to you.Spacing for the piers is usually six to eight ft apart down the two I beams with block support underneth all exterior doors.

Thanks for the information. Since it is just a weekend getaway, I'll probably just block it.

There will be a local set up requirement for used homes...talk to your local building inpsector for information on what is required in your area...
