abandoned mobile home

Post by jean winders » Tue Feb 24, 2004 2:39 pm

my mother bought a mobile home 17 years ago. 7 years ago, it was involved in a flood and insurance did not cover the amount of damage. she refinanced it with citifinancial. 3 years ago, she moved the mh to the country and the move was too hard on it. mold and mildew bacame forming up all of the walls, the doors popped from their frames, the floor buckled, the showers pulled through in both bathrooms. rats and mice soon began to eat and gnaw through. the furnace broke down in january and being on a fixed income, they had no money to repair it. i had no idea how badly they had been living. i live in another state. she had been in ill health soon after moving the mobile home....lots of respiratory infections and 3 serious strokes.

to make this short...both my parents are on ss disability. they have no other money, savings, investments, etc.

i drove to their home, packed them up and moved them out. this has now been 5 weeks ago. we were able to get their belongings out of the home this past week and on monday i called both citifinancial and the land company and told them my mother was defaulting. she had no means to pay for the necessary repairs and the home was uninhabitable in the condition it was in.

my question is: what will be the repercussions of them abandoning both the mh and the land?

thank you
