Sale/Move of Old Mobile Home

Post by Barbara » Fri Jan 09, 2004 7:22 pm

About 2 years ago, we bought a 2-1/2 acre lot in Florida that has a 1980 Vagabond mobile home on it. The mobile home was placed on this land in 1985 (it was, apparently, a pre-owned home when it was placed here), and has had a screen porch and extra room built on to it. We want to (hopefully) sell and remove the mobile from the lot so that we can build a site-built home here. Friends, however, have told us that because the mobile has been here for so long, and because of the add-on rooms, it would be hard to sell, and even if it sold, there may be problems with moving the home without causing damage. We'd like to try and get some money out of it (wholesale book value is around $13,000), but are now wondering if it wouldn't just be better to scrap it. It is still in good condition inside, it just looks "dated" on the outside. But, we're afraid that the structure might not sustain the move. What do you think??

Add-ons hinder the resale prospects...but much more important is that this model does not meet the new wind zone 2 anchor requirements of the state...This means it would have to be sold to someone from out of state and moved all that distance..It cannot be relocated in Florida..
