We are in WZone 3 and advised to get either plywood or OSB. Someone told us that blackboard is better for moisture reasons??????

Does it cause moisture build up?

What is the big deal about OSB?

Any idea how much extra OSB should cost??

How Long do you think a mobile home MIGHT LAST? Just asking opinion.

Thank you

Don

You ask..
Does it cause moisture build up?
For info..there is a new study available of this problem in your area...

http://www.mhrahome.org/pages/moisture_field.htm

or a complete pdf of the file and conclusions on how to minimize moisture problems

http://www.mhrahome.org/media/reports/moist.pdf

The section about exterior wraps has this quote...
"The attempt to seal the wall using blackboard as sheathing failed. Further investigation is needed to
determine the best strategies for sealing walls."

Basically I think you have been miss informed..

What is the big deal about OSB?...

Adds structural stability to the home...Also security is a concern for some..With OSB it is almost impossible to gain access with a box knife..Vinal and blackboard or foam backing are no challenge for a box knife..

Any idea how much extra OSB should cost??
Each factory is different...usually from $350 to the most $1000..but the best homes come standard with this feature..

How Long do you think a mobile home MIGHT LAST? Just asking opinion....Appraisers use a 50 year life...With proper maintenance these homes will last as long as any other new homes on the market...
