additions???

Post by Duane » Fri Nov 07, 2003 11:03 pm

I was wondering if it was possible or feasable to "add-on" to a manufactured home, such as an extra room or to enlarge an existing room. I am considering purchasing a MH in my area, but most, if not all, the listings in my area are for homes that are 1600 sf or smaller.

Thanx,

Duane

This is a question that was never answered, and I was hoping it would be answered. I would like to add one large room to a singlewide.

Room additions are something that we see often. Some are great, and some are horror stories. The home must be properly supported, with the correct footing and piering in order to facilitate an addition. Secondly, the best addition, may be one that is not structurally attached to the original home. This can be done by utilizing the existing entry door, or retrofitting a window to form a door opening. This will enable the two structures to be self supporting. If the home is properly supported, and you don't properly support the addition, you can get separation. This work should be done by a properly licensed and certified contractor in the manufactured housing field, as code issues are involved.
