Exterior Window Caulking

Post by Linda Oz » Sun Oct 19, 2003 12:54 pm

Hello & Thanks for this great forum.

I purchased a beautiful Skyline a few months ago. It has a vinyl(?) siding and skirting and I believe the exterior window trim is the same material. I just noticed it has no exterior window caulking, so I am doing it myself. Is this something the installers should have done?

Thanks,
Linda

A vinyl sided house has window trim that goes over the vinyl in most cases. Its a right angle trim which shields the vinyl from moisture getting behind.I don't see how it could be caulked, perhaps you have a different siding and trim on your home.

Bill,

The window trim does go over the siding, but there is up to a 1/4" gap between the trim and the siding along the perimeter. Rain blowing in at a side angle would get in there. Not sure if that is a concern since I don't think wood is involved.

Thanks much for your input!

Linda
