I was given a form by one of the community residents. She stated that because a "mobile home" is considered a "vehicle" in Florida, if one of us dies, the state can take the car for any unpaid hospital/nursing home bills...because...it's not considered a primary "residence" until I sign the form (which needs to be notarized & filed with the town). The form state that this MH is primary and that I don't own property elsewhere that I live in during the year. Have you heard of this?

Ann....be careful what you sign....I have never heard of the state taking a home for unpaid medicaid bills...A manufactured home is a home..and Florida is a homestead state...meaning you cannot be forced out to settle a debt...It also would be able to shelter your home is the event of a bankruptcy...

Now..you might want to talk to your tax collector...There might well be different tax bases for primary homes verses second homes...

Relax...and enjoy those years in sunny Florida..
