manufacturing
My wife and I took a tour of Palm Harbor Manufactured homes in Sabina, Ohio today and I have a few questions. Why do they use staples to attach wood areas such as floor joices, walls and such? This seems like a poor fastner. Why do they use 2X3 on internal wals at 24 inches on center? This also seems like poor stability and Trailer like. Now understand that they also use a glue fastner but will this stand up? Is this manufacturing process normal for the industry? and if so how do they rate compared to stick built homes?
Re: manufacturing
Not all manufacturers do this, many build to standard stick built codes. The building methods you speak of are common for low end manufactured homes that are built for low price and high profit. If you are looking for a better built product keep doing what you are doing...shop around and investigate their building process.,
Re: manufacturing
Plant tours are one of the ways to get buy the sales hype...Not all homes have 24 inch centers on the interior walls for instance..
While at the plant...be sure to ask just these questions...
A major point...companies like the one you visited build different specs in each plant..Many PH are much better than this...but you are doing the right thing..
By the way...power fastners are commonly used in stick built homes as well these days..
