Resale value
Resale value
How does the resale value of one of today's new manufactured homes compare with the resale value of a site built home? Also, what about tornados? Do I still have to get out of a new manufactured home that is properly anchored and find shelter elsewhere durning a tornado warning?
Re:Tornadoes
I live in Bama, also known as Tornado Alley. Let me clue you in on a fact about
tornadoes... if one is coming your way, you had better seek adequate shelter.
I have seen the results of home hit by tornadoes, and it is pretty much the
same if you live in a site built or a manufactured home. They will rip a home
apart. I have seen brick school buildings blown down by them. There isn't
to much of anything that will stand up to the force of an F-4 or higher tornado.
If you have a home in my part of the country, you have to have a shelter to run
to.
You've probably seen the picture of the PH MFH that survived the Hurricane.
You've probably also seen pictures of homes that escape forest fires when all
the homes around them have burned to the ground. My point is that you can
take a chance with the forces of mother nature, or you can protect yourself.
As for me, I'll head to the tornadoe shelter in the back yard. The tornado
lotto does't offer very good odds.
good luck

Re:Tornado's
The assumption that MH is more affected by tornados than other structures is not entirely accurate. A lot of MH are in country settings which are flat and in the south, more tornado's than other parts of the country. The majority of MH sit above ground with a thin skirting around them. The skirting will colapse in a high wind and the wind can get under the home and lift it this will not happen with a site built home unless on high peers. You can provide the same secure structure with a MH as you can with a site built by having a perimiter foundation or make your skirting out of brick or cinder block. Another way to be somewhat protected is to be at the bottom of valley not the top or in an open field.
